advice for parents about bullying

What to do?

When your child comes to you with bullying you should first make sure they can identify what kind of bullying it is so you can help them as it fits. If its bullying in school especially if its verbal or social bullying you could report it to their teacher who will punish that child who is being a bully. However if its more physical bullying or if it makes them feel scared to go to school that should be reported straight to the head of school as they have more athuority than the students teacher.

what will my childs school do?

If you've reported to a teacher and your curious and eager to find out what happens to the bully now you should find out the schools behaviour policy and what they do for bullying in their school. Schools are obliged to have parents and careers aware of the policies in place for behaviour and sometimes they have it on the schools website always have a look!

cyber bullying

There isn't much schools can do with cyber bullying however reporting it to the police is most encouraged. Keep track of all messages, calls and posts that your child has faced and screen shot them if you can to show as evidence. In some cases such as horrible threats and making your child feel unsafe the police may arrest the person whos doing it. Even if they are annomously sending these messages and calls the police could be helpful at investigating who is behind it all.

Outside of school bullying

Even if your child is being bullied outside of school the school can still help. If its by another pupil you can report it to the head of the school where they can punish and talk to the person bullying. However if the child isn't in the same school you can report it to your local council who can give the bully a scare and talk to them and their parents about the wrong behaviour.
